Diet sodas have been very popular since the 1980s and Diet Coke is the largest selling low calorie soft drink in America.

In fact, more females drink Diet Coke more than any other brand of drink.

The main attraction to diet sodas is that they’re sugar free and provide about one calorie per can. It doesn’t just stop at one can though.

Diet soda drinkers regularly drink several cans a day. But many think it doesn’t matter as its only one calorie a drink.

So what can be so bad about diet soda?

There are several details the soft drink giants will never mention but you just need to take a closer look at the ingredients and in particular aspartame.

Aspartame is the main ingredient in diet soda and is the reason the drink is low in calories. It’s about 200 times sweeter than sugar and is what gives it that sweet taste without using sugar.

It’s a marketers dream.

If this sounds too good to be true then it is.

Aspartame is linked to conditions such as multiple sclerosis, lupus, fibromyalgia, numbness in your legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision and memory loss.

Need I go on?

This may all sound very dramatic but the truth is aspartame breaks down into methanol, which is essentially embalming fluid, at just over 100 degrees in the human body!

This chemical sweetener can have multiple neurotoxic, metabolic, allergic and carcinogenic effects all for the sake of being fat free and low in calories.

It’s also been recently proven that diet sodas can cause weight gain because the chemical has a powerful effect on the brain altering communication with the liver and causing serious blood sugar problems.

Those who drink Diet Coke know they can’t stop at just one can.

Food scientists have identified 51 different elements that must be present in order to satisfy the appetite centre of our brains.

The soft drink companies selectively remove one or two of these items leaving you wanting more and becoming addicted to the drink.

So what can you do about it all?

Stop drinking diet soda!

The healthier and not to mention cheaper alternative is water.

It’s sugar free and has zero calories and you can flavour it with some fruit instead of unknown ingredients like caramel E150d or acesulfame-K found in Diet Coke.
